Fuchsia 'Beckie Lou' (Standard Whip)

Hardy Shrub

Here is an exciting new fuchsia to grow and enjoy! We will send this to you as a well established potted whip plant in a 9cm pot Growing your own standard is not difficult and makes for a stunning display plant. Grow the plant up the cane, tying it in every two inches so that it does not bend. Remove any side shoots (not leaves). as they appear and do not touch the top of the plant. Once it has reached the desired Height remove the growing tip from the top. Pinch and shape the head as it grows and remove any flower buds. Once you are happy with the shape and size then let it flower and remove the leaves up the stem. Make sure it’s in a sturdy pot to avoid the wind blowing over all your work which would be awful! Height: 120cm (48"). Spread: 120cm (48").

Repot whips in patio containers of well drained, soil based compost such as John Innes No.3. Alternatively plant fuchsias out in borders, in any moist, well drained soil. Choose a sunny or semi shaded site which is protected from cold winds. Provide a sturdy support against the main stem of standard fuchsias to support the plant and keep the stem straight.
Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season. Deadhead faded fuchsia flowers to encourage more blooms to be produced. In autumn, a bark or compost mulch applied to the base of fuchsia plants will help to protect hardy fuchsias from winter cold.
We will do our best to ship your plants or bulbs to you at the ideal time for planting as stated against each product.
