We all love fuchsias in our garden - such pretty flowers. These are hardy ones you can grow and forget about ... which is ideal! Plant out in the garden at the end of May (July at the latest). in your chosen position and they’ll come back next year after the frosts have gone. Hardy Fuchsia Shrimp Cocktail, with cerise sepals and marbled pink petals, is a compact variety which is just right for borders and patio containers,producing a succession of supremely weather resistant blooms throughout summer and autumn. Pot up plugs and grow them on until large enough to plant outside in their final positions. Pinch out the growing points where stems have more than 2 sets of leaves, while the plants are still small. This will encourage the plants to produce more stems, making a bushier plant with more flowers. Grow hardy fuchsias in containers or borders, in any moist, well drained soil. Position in a sunny or semi shaded site which is protected from cold winds over winter.
Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season. Deadhead faded flowers to encourage more blooms to be produced. In autumn, a bark or compost mulch applied to the base of fuchsia plants will help to protect hardy fuchsias from winter cold.
