Fuchsia 'Army Nurse'

Hardy Shrub

We all love fuchsias in our garden - such pretty flowers. These are hardy ones you can grow and forget about ... which is ideal! Plant out in the garden at the end of May (July at the latest) in your chosen position and they’ll come back next year after the frosts have gone. Hardy Fuchsia ’Army Nurse’ has purple and red single blooms up to 6cm (2½”) across, and makes a colourful display in patio containers and borders all summer long. Height: 60cm (24"). Spread: 60cm (24").

Culinary information: Some parts of these flowers are edible. Click here for more details about edible flowers.

Pot up Fuchsia 'Army Nurse' using well drained compost such as John Innes No.3, and grow on in warm, frost-free conditions. Pinch out the growing tips while fuchsia plants are still small to promote bushier growth and more flowers. When plants are well grown and all risk of frost has passed, gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over a 7 to 10 day period, before planting them in their final positions in patio containers and sunny or semi shaded borders.
Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season. Deadhead faded fuchsia flowers to encourage more blooms to be produced. Apply a deep mulch around the base of hardy fuchsias in autumn to protect the roots from winter cold. Prune stems back to a low permanent framework in spring.
